DR. T C STOCKTON, 1911; WILL OF PARENTS PROVED 1 MAR 1747/8; removed to Menallen Twsp, then in York (now Adams) Co, PA where he purchased 300 acres of land in 1765. His son, Robert, had preceded him to that place... In later life he took up his residence with his dau., Elizabeth Waddell, at Chambersburg and removed with her to a place near Mercersberg, PA. where he died May 31, 1795 "A very old man aged over 86 years." He was an elder of the Presby. Church and was buried at Church Hill Cem. at Upper West Conocheague Church 2 or 3 miles east of Chambersburg. This church no longer exists. REV. I Thomas Stockton, in Twsp of Peters, Co. of Franklin, Province of PA, being sick and weak in body but yet in Perfect Mind and memory blessed be God for it. Calling to Mind the mortality of my body I ordain this to be my Last Will and Testament. First of all I recommend my Soul to God that gave it trusting that thro the Death and Suffering of Jesus Christ at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again and ever live in glory with my blessed redeemer. My will is that I be decently buried at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned and as for the Worldy Goods it hath pleased God to endue me with I leave them as follows viz: That Note which I have of my son Thomas Stockton I do bequeath to my son John Stockton his heirs and Assigns. and further that 50 pounds that was Due to me in the year 1786 I bequeath what is due of it only the interest to my son David Stockton, the Remainder to my daughter Elizabeth Waddell. And the other 50 pounds which Was Due in the year 1787 I Do bequeath as followeth. I first allow my funeral Charges occurring thereon, to be paid out of it, and the remainder as followeth. I do bequeath 10 pounds out of it to my son Robert Stockton, and 15 pounds unto my Daughter Isabella Neilson, and 10 pounds to my Daughter Mary Bard, and 10 pounds to my Daughter Margaret Johnston, and 5 pounds to my son Thomas Stockton. There is no further supporting data for her birth. Isabella married John Neilson about 1754, probably at her father's home in Menallen Twsp, York Co., PA. John Neilson was born about 1731. Between 1755 and 1774, they had at least 9 and possibly 11 children. John and 2 of their sons, fought in the Rev. War (which ones?) Isabella and her husband witnessed her uncle David's 1752 will. they lived in Menallen, York Co, until at least 1762. (taxed); Letterkenny, Cumberland Co., PA in 1763-1797. (became Franklin Co, 1784); 1797 to WVA vicinity of West Liberty, VA (now WVA) about 8 miles from Wheeling. Isabella died intestate. Her estate settlement identified her 2 living sons, John and James, a dec'd son, Joseph, and husbands of 5 of her 6 daughters, John Caldwell, William Waddell, John Marling, John Poke and William Huston. DEED OF SALE, 5 APR 1797, Franklin Co., Deed Book 4, p 239; John Neilson and his wife Isobel sold 337 acres to Martin Nisle of Lancaster Co, from land that John Patented 18 SEP 1787. Adjoining land owners were James Mitchell, John Stevenson, John Wilson, Alexander Rumix, Robert Stogdon, James Jordan and Samuel Burgess. He served in the Rev. War, with his pastor, Rev. John Craighead, and was in the battles of Princeton and Monmouth. served as a private in Capt. James McConnell's co, Cumberland Co., PA militia in 1776-1780 under Col. Joseph Armstrong. (PA Archives, 5th series, Vol. 6, pg 317-8). In 1784 he removed to Washington, Washington Co, PA where in July of that year he purchased the farm of Peter Jolly, called in the sruvey "Beaver Dam". This farm is situated in Franklin Twsp, 3 1/2 miles w of Washington and is still in the possession of the Stockton Family. He m. 22 DEC 1761, Mary Mckemie. She was born 25 MAY 1738; d. 26 MAY 1818. Granted a Letter of Adm. for the estate of his brother, George Stockton of Letterkenny Twsp on 20 OCT 1777. Served active militia duty with Capt. James McConnell's Co., 5th Batt, Cumberland Co on 8 DEC 1776. His brother, George and Nephew Thomas Nelson were on the same roster. He is shown again on active duty JUL 1777, 5th Co, 6th Batt. 30 AUG 1780, appeared as Private in 3rd Co, 4th Batt, Cumberland Co. Militia.
