     Pub., 1926; On 12 MAY 1778, during the Rev. War, Benjamin was appointed
     Commissary of an Independent Co., of Guards to be raised in New Castle Co.,
in his will of 13 OCT 1776, he included the phrase "... now having an
intention to go to the camp at New York..."  He died after his 1778 appointment
and before the wills recording on 22 AUG 1778; In the will he was identified as
being of St. George's Hundred. His legatees were his wife Martha, and sister
Elizabeth Stockton of MD; there was no mention of children.
     Notwithstanding their absence from his will, it was possible that he had a
son and a daughter.  in 1782, four years after his death, his widow, Martha
Stogdon was taxed with a nale and a female less than 18 in the household. (The
Reconstructed DE State Census of 1782, Hancock, p 83).  The children might also
have been servants, or children of a relative.

      Stoughton.  In 1776, Mary Hill, widow of Joseph Hill, Appoqunimink Hundred,
     sister of Alrich, the father of Martha Stockton, included Martha Stockton in
     her will.
