Thomas Johnson was a farmer, carpenter, surveyor, constable, Lieutenant, Church
representative, and representative of the General Court.

Mary Johnson daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth Short Holt was born in Newbury
6 Oct 1683.  She was the first child of Nicholas to marry and hers was one of
the first 10 marriages in Andover, Mass.  Her daughter Mary was the first
grandchild of Nicholas Holt and the first Johnson child born in Andover.

Mary Holt married 5 July 1667, (by Simon Bradstreet) to thmas Johnson who at
hte age of 4 came on the ship "James" in 1635 with his father, John Johnson,
later known as "Haverhill John."

Thomas Johnson, son-in-law of Nicholas Holt was a busu man, a farmer,
carpenter, surveyor, constable, lieut, church member, and father of a large
family.  When Thomas Johnson was about 14 years old, a law was passed that all
youth from 10 to 16 shall be instructed by one of the officers of the band or
some other experienced soldier in the exercise of arms or small arms, half
pikes, and bows and arrows.  The Johnsons and their neighbor's boys met for
practice.

In 1674, Thomas was made sargeant of the militia and later lieut.  He was
elected constable.  He was a surveyor from 1676 to 1696.

While he was not among those summoned to appear in the witchcraft trials, it is
an honor to him that his name, his son Thomas Jr. and Wife Mary appear on the
petition for the release of the accused.

Thomas and Mary H. Johnson lived on the road leading from Ipswich to
Billericia.

Thomas died in the flames when his house burned.
