       Gaines, James:  b. 1791 in Laurens district, S. C., was a son ofRichard Gaines, "the Minute Man" - so called in a "History of the GainesFamily".  He was a soldier in the War of 1812 and fought the Indiana inSouth Ga., and Fla.  He married Margaret Clore about 1812 and selling hisfarm in Laurens at a loss in the 30's, he with his family and slavesremoved to Georgia, working on rented lands near Adairsville on the oldHamilton-Fitten place.  He was one of the charter members of theOothcalooga Baptist church.  Later he bought land near Cassville and byhard work he left his children an estate; died Oct. 1856 at Adairsville.
