I had been looking for a list of their childrenfor years and evidently you got a copy of a family bible recordIf you are a descendant and are interested, I have Rebecca's maidenname and much of her family history. She was born in Dutchess Co., NYto a Revolutionary War veteran and his wife, moved to Renssalaer Co., NYa little later and then to Schoharie where she lived out her marriedlifeuntil her death in 1837. She was the second of 14 children born to herparents and she had a number of brothers, neices and nephews, who livedin Schoharie. Please get in touch with me if you are interested in pursuing moreon this family.Thanks,R. Yes, I would love to know more. EmmaLouiseMickel is my 2ggmother and her father is the youngest son of Adam andRebecca, namely Thomas Whitfield Mickel. There is a family grouprecordfor Adam and Rebecca Mickel in the LDS library in SLC that was submittedinabout 1946. They list as their source a family bible. I've done verylittle personal research on this family except on Thomas Whitfield andEmmaLouise.I had another Guffin researcher send me the following email:----- Original Message -----From: "Sandra R. Dear Laurie,I am so glad to hear from you. Below is your line:ANDREW GUFFIN, b. May 29, 1756 in Newry, County Down, N. Eight of his fourteen children eventually movedto Schoharie County, NY. Hannah Ostrom Guffin died on May 2, 1835and was buried in the Nassau Cemetery.Children:1. Elizabeth GUFFIN, b. March 15, 1782 in Dutchess Co., NY; nevermarried; d. in 1845.2. Rebecca GUFFIN, b. November 7, 1783 in Dutchess Co., NY; m. AdamMICKEL; moved to Schoharie Co., NY; she d. Nov. 4, 1837.3. Andrew GUFFIN, b. August 20, 1785 in Dutchess Co., NY; d. June 23,1863; m. Hannah YOUNG(S) and had a large family.4. Sarah GUFFIN, b. August 27, 1787 in Dutchess Co., NY; m. John GUFFIN, b. January 22, 1792 in Dutchess Co., NY; m. Hannah DINGS;d. December 12, 1871 in Albany or Renssalaer Co., NY.7. Thomas GUFFIN, b. November 29, 1793 in Dutchess Co., NY; m. Susan BEACH;moved to Schoharie Co., NY; moved in 1850's to Morrison, IL wherehe died on December 6, 1881.8. George GUFFIN, b. January 20, 1795 in Renssalaer Co., NY; d. at age 9.9. Mary GUFFIN, b. February 9, 1798 in Renssalaer Co., NY; m. Sylvester PHELPS; they moved to Schoharie Co., NY and she d. March 26, 1876.10. Josiah GUFFIN, b. February 6, 1800 in Renssalaer Co., NY; moved to Schoharie Co., NY and m. Modena ROSCOE; moved ca. 1855 to JohnsonCo., Iowa where he died December 21, 188811. Henry GUFFIN, b. January 2, 1802 in Renssalaer Co., NY; never married;moved to Schoharie Co., NY and lived with his nephew, Adam H. MICKELand his wife; he died October 4, 1888.12. Hannah GUFFIN, b. July 23, 1803 in Renssalaer Co., NY and d. on April 9, 1804.13. Elijah GUFFIN, b. June 8, 1805 in Renssalaer Co., NY; earned a college degreeand became the Principal teacher at the Deaf and Dumb Asylum in Canajoharie,NY; d. at age 26 and buried with his parents at Nassau, NY; probably nevermarried.14. Jonas Coe GUFFIN, b. November 30, 1808 in Renssalaer Co., NY; d. at age 28 inCarlisle, Schoharie County, NY; prob. never married. As you likely noticed, Henry Guffin never married and lived with Adam H. Mickel, older brother of Thomas Whitfield Mickel. Another of their brothers was AndrewG. Mickel and we think that was Andrew Guffin Mickel. When Henry Guffin died in1888, he had survived all his brothers and sisters except his brother Josiah in Iowa. When his estate was settled, his heirs were his nieces and nephews or their children.Since his nephew, Thomas Whitfield Markel, was already deceased, it simply listedthe living children of Thomas Whitfield which included Emma March and Sarah Aldrich. That estate record is the documentary proof we needed to show your connection.Andrew G. Mickel, older brother of your Thomas Whitfield Mickel, was married toHannah Werthe/Werth/Worth. They had two known sons who also appeared on Henry Guffin'sestate settlement. They were Charles Mickel and Weston G. Mickel. Weston G. Mickelwas Sergeant of Colors for the 134 NY Infantry Regiment in the Civil War. He wasat Gettysburg and later with Sherman on his March to the Sea. He later carried thecolors of the regiment at the Grand Review in Washington, DC. He died in SchoharieCo., NY on November 13, 1930. I descend from THOMAS GUFFIN, older brother of Andrew Guffin, the immigrant. Thomas and another brother, George, settled in Virginia and later went their separateways. My Thomas died in Abbeville Co., SC around 1789 and his son, Andrew Guffin, myggg grandfather moved to GA around 1810. I was
born and raised in Marietta, GA andhave lived in AL since 1964. The largest concentration of Guffins today is in theGreater Atlanta area and still that number is very small. I have worked on the familyhistory since about 1962 and continue to work on it. Feel free to ask any questionon the material enclosed.Kind regards,R. L. GuffinTuscaloosa, AL
