Joannah Woodward Str NJ _________________________________________________________________ BIOGRAPHY BY BILLEE H. SCHLAUDT OF HOUSTON TX BILLEE H. SCHLAUDT 13823 MENASCO COURT HOUSTON, TX 77077 Josiah Lambert was in the Commissary Department as an ensign on the privateer Retrieve; was captured and taken prisoner in Massachusetts Bay, off Casco Bay, Maine, by the British Ship Milford, which the Americans tried very hard to capture as she was disrupting fishing and shipping along the coast from Maine to New Jersey. The Retrieve was purchased at Little Egg Harbor, N.J. by Philadelphia capital and outfitted there; the master was Wm. Paul, Philadelphia. Josiah also served as a guard in Philadelphia, at that time living at Lamberton, N.J., now South Trenton. Josiah and his wife Joannah moved to Harrison Co, VA (now WV) where they were neighbors with the Kelly and Davisson families. In the early 1800s these three families travelled down the Ohio River on a flatboat; the Kellys and the Davissons stopped at what is now Ironton. The Lamberts went on to Limestone, Ky, now Maysville, KY, but inasmuch as all the land belonged to Daniel Boone, the Lamberts went back up the river and settled in the lower section of what is now Ironton, Ohio. Josiah built a small log house at the foot of the hill, end of the road. This road ran in a direct line from the Richard Lambert house (son of Josiah) on the Ohio River bank to the house of Josiah Lambert at the foot of the hill. The Lamberts had coal banks in the hills back of the Josiah Lambert house and hauled coal out this road to the river, where there was a boat landing. The earliest steamboats were coaled at this landing also many barges loaded with coal to be taken down the Ohio River. These coal banks also supplied the blacksmith shop of Richard Lambert. _____________________________________________________________________________ SOURCES -Marion Seeley Lambert, Youngstown, OH (1969 Worksheet) -Woodland Cemetery, Coal Grove, OH -"Dedication of Josiah Lambert Marker" by Mrs. Ralph F. Rhodes 7055 Prospect-Dublin Road Prospect, OH 43342-9553 his source Ethel Albin's Ancestor Chart, "The Virginia Albins" ___________________________________________________________________ Her grave marker shows her name to be Lucinda. Lucinda and her husband Robert Parks were apparently buried on their home place. In 1934 a Mr. A. N. Lawson copied data from grave stones located on his farm and provided the data to the local Genealogical Society. The Lawson farm was on Brushy Fork of Elm Creek and Robert & Lucinda Parks had owned land on Brushy Fork of Elm Creek. It would take at least a land records check to try to verify this would be the same land, but it certainly looks plausable. Also, there were just the two graves found there -- it was not a regular cemetery. Marker data shows Robert Parks died 12/26/1845 at the age of 77 yrs 6 mo 28 days (born 28 May 1768). Lucinda died 5/3/1834 at age 62. Other data I have seen shows she was born 5/3/1772, which would indicate she died on her birthday -- I'm not sure about that, but, at this point, I can't challenge it either. On the 1880 census for Harrison Co., WV, Abel B. Parks, son of Robert & Lucinda, said his father was born in DE and his mother in NJ. This supports what you show. There are other items I would like to discuss with you later. If you would please provide your mailing address, I will send you copies of supporting documents -- if you would like them and don't already have them. Also, I would appreciate your telephone number. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Marvin A.
