William HARRIS
Buried in Lot 1D 35. Mrs. Stratton has a book about this line. Ancestors and Descendants of Robert Harris, Sr. He came with his parents to Harrisburg, NC in 1765 and at the death of his father succeeded him in possession of the plantation on Footy Creek. An 1815 letter to his niece Jenny - he gave his return address as Wm. Harris, N.C. Cabarrus County, Concord Post Office: ...Have not had any personal acquaintance with any of my friends in PA, being only ten years of age when my father left that country. He came to N.C. in the year 65. The family was compsed of himself, Mother, Brother Robert, sister Mary andMyself. 5 in all. He settled on a small spot of land, unimproved, and lived to an advanced age, and went to his grave in peace in the 87th year of his age. Mother died some months after, aged 77 years... I was the last and youngest child of the family, and succeeded my father in the plantation. I had married in my 23 year. My wife was in her 17th and in 10 months after she bore me a son, and in two months after she died. I was providentially provided for, in the nursing and raising the child... I lived for six years in a widowed state, marrieda second wife twenty years of age. She has had eleven children, the first was a daughter, and died at 17 days old. The second was a so and died at 14 years old. The thirda son, married four years ago, much to my satisfaction. An 1821 letter to Margaret's daughter Jenny (McElvey) Reed from her Uncle William Harris, in N.C., referred to Jenny's aged father: "On the 13th of last March, my fourth and youngest daughter, Ann, was married to a young man of the name of Elias Snell soldier under your father as an acting Colonel in the Militia Service in the Revolutionary War of 76." It is not known if the McAlvey's fort in that area in PA was named for this family.
Buried in Lot 1D 34. Birth place was gotten rom Soloman on the 1880 census.
Headstone says: In memory of Robert Harris, Son of William, who departed this life on the 13th of February A.D. 1801 Aged 14 years, 1 month and 24 days. "Farewell, my loving parents dear, Brothers and sisters too. I hasten to my Saviour's call, A long and last adieu."
Married 5 times, had 15 children. Joshua settled on a part of his father's plantation, opposite and in sight of his father's house. At the time on Ann Allen's death at the birth of her 4th child, Joshua's father wrote of his son, "He was in a very thriving way of living. I had made him a deed of 125 acres of land of the first quality. No improvements on it at the time, only about 9 acres of clear land. He had made considerable improvements, had cleared about 30 acres, with very good buildings, had the last year about 800 bushels of orn and 260 bushels of wheat, had purchased himself two valuable Negroes (a fellow and a wench)." Joshua's 4 children by his first wife, Ann Allen, born betweem 1812 - 1820, moved away from N.C. to Mississippi and Powder Springs, GA. The 7 children he had with Elizabeth Harris were born between 1823 - 1834. The 3 children with Ann Levinia Lingle, were born between 1856 - 1859.
He received from his father's will 207 acres of the plantation where I now live,one mile South of Reedy Creek, home with a valuable mill seat." Here Alexander and Penelope lived until 1859 when they sold and moved to Iredellcounty, NC where they lived the remainder of their lives." Their numerous descendants flourished in the community and are recorded in Mrs. Stratton's excellenthistory. His children were born between 1816 - 1832.

This family lived in the Back Creek area where they were devoted Presbyterians. The had numerous and highly respected descendants. Her children were born between 1817 - 1839. Their granddaughter Margaret Eveline Flow, Married Rev. William Clark Cooledge Foster (also a Harris descendant).
This family settled on 50 acres of land given to them by Isabel's father. This was about a 1/4 mile due E. of his home. The house was still standing in 1967. They lived there about 20 years, then moved to GA where they settled near PowderSprings. Joseph died in Powder Springs, and Isabel remained there until 1863, when she returned to NC 1during the Civil War, to live near her father. Her children were born between 1829 - 1837. After the Civil War, her children and grandchildren returned to Powder Springs, GA.
The children were born between 1822 - 1835. Mary's father was reportedly very fond of her, and never reconciled fully to hermarriage.
This was the 2nd Ann. The first died as an infant. Moved about 2 miles due south of her father on Reedy Creek and lived their until their deaths. Worshipped at the Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church where they are buried. The children were born between 1821 - 1838.
Inherited the family homestead from his father. Settled there after he was married. Lived their with his wife until his death. He was the 3rd generation to own this home about 1 1/2 miles from Harrisburg, NC. Passed the homestead to his sonAlexander Newton. During the wheat harvest of about 1874 or 1875, he received a scratch on the back of his L hand, which developed a painful eating sore. After various treatmentsto no avail, Dr. Seab Blair, the family physician, assisted by Dr. J.R. WIlson,cut the hand off half way to the elbow. The wound healed nicely and he lived tosee his descendants to the third generation. Five of their sons served as soldiers in the Confederate army, with 3 giving their lives. Solomon's obituary: "Died in Cabarrus County, NC, Sep 14, 1885, MR SOLOMAN HARRIS, aged 82 years, 1 month and 3 days. Mr. Harris was the oldest man in Rocky River c ongreation, having lived a memberof Rocky River Church for 60 years. Uncle Soloman as he was familiarly know, was a good man and a kind and obliging neighbor. During the late was his house wasopen and his table free to the passing soldiers of the Confederate army. Mr. Harris buried his wife, a good woman, 6 years ago, and they leave 2 sons, two daughtersm and numerous friends to mourn their liss. It is a cact, the recurrence ofwhich seldom takes place, that Soloman Harris died in the same house un which his father, William Harris, died in 1828, aged 73 years, adn within one hundred yards of where his grandfather, Robert Harris, died December 26, 1788, aged 86 years." Jane and Soloman were devout Christians and are buried with other family membersin the Rocky River Presbyterian Church Graveyard, Cabarrus Co, NC. Jane in Lot6F 491, and Soloman in Lot 6F 492. 1880 - was living alone, next to A. Newton Harris family.
The family lived in Maury County, TN, until they moved to TX in Dec 1856. His children were born between 1831 - 1853. All born in Maury County, TN.
He married Ann Headley 16 Jun 1783 at Cabarrus, North Carolina . Ann Headley was born at NC 7 May 1763 .
