Robert HARRIS

                   Lived near Clear Creek, Cabarrus County, NC. They had no children.

His brother William Harris, wrote to their niece, Mrs. Jenny Reed, who lived at Shaver's Creek, Huntingdon County, PA;
"He bid adieu to this world on the 27th of June and in the 72nd year of his age....he made a will and died in good circumstances....left his widow a comfortableliving with a good plantation and a negro fellow during her lifetime and a Negro girl to be at her disposal as she thinks proper at her death. The Negroes are both grown up, healthy and stout. Last Friday was the day of the sale of his property that he considered unnecessary for her to keep, at which sale I bought a Negro boy of the age of 17 years at the price of $700....after his death I sent to Raleigh, which is our seat of Government, and had his death inserted in the public print. I have here sent you a copy of it with others that was inserted at the same time. Likewise I here send you a pair of black gloves, I hope that you will receive them and wear them in memory of him.  your Uncle Robert."   (The giving of gloves at a funeral was a custom of that day.)
