                   Founder of Stroudsburg. Inscription on tombstone: "Jacob Stroud, Original Proprietor of Stroudsburg. Born Jany.15, 1735 at Amwell N.J. Died July 14, 1806.  Member of the Legislature of Penna. during the dangerous times of the Revolution also of the Convention which formed the Constitution of the State. And in this partof the Country, one of the most useful men of his day." He was a Col. in the Revolution, and took part in the French and Indian wars.
