                   George Stuart's first appearance in this country, is at Marietta, on the Susquehanna, where he had a farm as early as 1717, and probably several years earlier. As no settlements were made prior to 1708 or 1709, he may be considered one of the earliest settlers of his neighborhood. He was on the final extant (assessment) roll in 1722, and by that time had acquired sufficient reputation to be appointed Justice of the Peace.
His farm was originally in Conewago Township, Chester County, PA.
In 1722, the western part became Donegal Township, and in 1927, Donegal Twp. became part of Lancaster County when it was formed.
His will dated Dec 26, 1732, was proved Jan 30, 1733, and is recorded in Will
Book "A" pps 7+8 in Lancaster County, PA.

                   Born in either Ireland or Scotland, although I have a note that says New Castle,New Castle, Del.
His will was dated 10 Oct 1749. In Book "A" p 188, Lancaster County, PA.
I don't know which spelling is correct, but Horace used Stuart.
IGI file states he was born in New Castle, New Castle, DEL.

Mary STUART

                   Resided near Juniata,PA.
She was a brave woman, and in the absence of her husband "defended herself" and those who took refuge with her in the block house. On one raid she shot while others loaded the guns.
She was made executrix of her husband's will and lived in Mexico until 1783 whenshe moved to her daughter's home (Mrs. Moore), where she died in 1785, either 70 or 75 years old.
