The other five sons of Robert--John, James, Robert, Charles and Samuel--about 1750 to 1755, moved to Mecklenburg county, North Carolina (now Cabarrus County) and settled on Rocky River.

Item. I give to Jess Alexander Fifteen pounds to be made up out

case he gets leave to live with his mother to that period of time if he
is taken from her I leave him nothing.

during her widowhood or to my daughters marriage or coming of age
to be sold at her marriage or death, or my Daughter Margarets
marriage or coming of age which ever Shall first happen., the half of

& kept back from them for my Son James, The remainder to be Sold
& equally divided between my two Daughters Hannah Wiley &

Patent 2537, pg 580, Robert Harris, Jr., 11 Dec 1770, 47 acres in
Mecklenburgh on the waters of Reedy Creek of Rocky River between
Harris own line, David Flough, and the late Governor Dobbs tract
Number two.
Robert was a private in the Revolution, at age 45, serving in Capt. Charles Polks Light Horse Co. in the spring of 1776 in the Wilmington NC Campaign. His company of cavalry was commissioned 12 Mar 1776 and was in command of Gen. Griffith Rutherford in an expedition against the Cherokee Indians (who favored the British), across the mountains of NC. This company was in the rear and Robert Harris, Jr. was nearly killed by the Indians, having been shot at several times on 17 Sep 1776. The uniform of Gen. Rutherfords men was a hunting shirt of domesticcloth trimmed with cotton and their arms were their own trusty rifles. See Hunters Sketches of NC p. 89, 90, 198, where Capt. Polks muster roll is given in full.

SAMUEL HARRIS, was born 1735 in PA and died 5 Oct. 1795, Statesville, Iredell,
N.C. He married 1st: Rebecca Morrison 7 Aug 1758. She was b abt 1737, either
NC or Nantmeal Township, Chester, PA; d 11 Aug 1776, Iredell, NC, daughter of William and Margaret B. Morrison.
Samuel Harris was granted a large section of land in 1758 and lived about one-half mile north of Loray, N.C. He was a member of the First Bench of Elders and Clerk
of the Session of Concord Presbyterian Church, which was a member of the same group of churches as old Fourth Creek. He was magistrate in North Carolina under King George of England. Later he was magistrate under the Colonial Government in the Revolutionary War, and still later under the State of N.C. after independence of
the colonies was gained. He died of typhoid fever and was buried in the Concord Church Cemetery.

JAMES HARRIS, Jr., son of James and Mary McIlhenny Harris, was born 1740 in Lancaster, PA and died 3 Dec 1810. He married Hannah Stapleton. She was born 14 May 1744 in St. Georges Parish, Harford, Maryland, and died 1812 in Rowan, NC. (NOTE: See Will of Edward Stapleton which I found below).
Known issue:

On May 27, 1776, James enlisted in the Revolutionary Army as a member of the Steadmans Company, where he served two and half years.
Prior to June 1, 1796, the state of North Carolina included all of what is now the state of Tennessee. In the files of North Carolina Land Grants, there is recorded only one Military Land Grant to James Harris for Revolutionary War Service,Private in Line of this State Davidson County, Tennessee 228 Acres dated March 7, 1796. There are five other land grants recorded for James Harris by purchase from the state.
