Soloman HARRIS
Census
Inherited the family homestead from his father. Settled there after he was married. Lived their with his wife until his death. He was the 3rd generation to own this home about 1 1/2 miles from Harrisburg, NC. Passed the homestead to his sonAlexander Newton. During the wheat harvest of about 1874 or 1875, he received a scratch on the back of his L hand, which developed a painful eating sore. After various treatmentsto no avail, Dr. Seab Blair, the family physician, assisted by Dr. J.R. WIlson,cut the hand off half way to the elbow. The wound healed nicely and he lived tosee his descendants to the third generation. Five of their sons served as soldiers in the Confederate army, with 3 giving their lives. Solomon's obituary: "Died in Cabarrus County, NC, Sep 14, 1885, MR SOLOMAN HARRIS, aged 82 years, 1 month and 3 days. Mr. Harris was the oldest man in Rocky River c ongreation, having lived a memberof Rocky River Church for 60 years. Uncle Soloman as he was familiarly know, was a good man and a kind and obliging neighbor. During the late was his house wasopen and his table free to the passing soldiers of the Confederate army. Mr. Harris buried his wife, a good woman, 6 years ago, and they leave 2 sons, two daughtersm and numerous friends to mourn their liss. It is a cact, the recurrence ofwhich seldom takes place, that Soloman Harris died in the same house un which his father, William Harris, died in 1828, aged 73 years, adn within one hundred yards of where his grandfather, Robert Harris, died December 26, 1788, aged 86 years." Jane and Soloman were devout Christians and are buried with other family membersin the Rocky River Presbyterian Church Graveyard, Cabarrus Co, NC. Jane in Lot6F 491, and Soloman in Lot 6F 492. 1880 - was living alone, next to A. Newton Harris family.
May have had a sister named Asenetta Mc Clellan??? Lived with A Newton and family and was listed as an aunt. Asenetta was born abt 1820 in NC.

1880 census was listed as A. Newton Harris. Lots of info about him in The Harris History Book.

Died at the Spottsylvania, VA courthouse from effects of wounds. I am assuming that was in the Civil War.
He married Jane M. Phillips 19 Apr 1828 at Cabarrus, North Carolina . Jane M. Phillips was born at NC 15 Nov 1807 .
