Vernon. 1910 Ohio census he was a saw operator in a foundry. Ohio 1910 Census Miracode Index - living in Mt. Vernon 1912- 1913: listed as "John". Lived with Ida at 406 Braddock. He was a laborer. Church Extraction also has this name. POSSIBLY ANOTHER INFANT WHO DIED AT 2 DAYS. Burial date 9-12-1900. IT IS THE INFANT OF JOHN GRAFF, JR; They had relatives in Newark.

Mary came from the marriage record. Date of birth came from the Funeral Home record. There are other dates floating around. 1910 - She had reportedly 5 children, 3 alive in 1910. Earl was not with them, so he may have died already. 1914 - widow of "John" at 103 1/2 High St. Mt. Vernon. Hazel was there. 1920 - She was living with Hazel and her husband in Brown, Hancock, Indiana in 1920. She was a widow at the time. 1929 obituary in the Newark Advocate: She died at her home in Shirley, Indiana. She was survived by one daughter and two sons. Mound View Cemetery Records: Burial Date: 1 - 23- 1929 Cause: Pernicious Anemia Age: 77 Female Married White There is a Mrs. Sarah Hardisty of 115 Hamtramck who ordered the charges. ??? Sister or sister-in-law?? Mrs. Glenn Leisher paid the bill.
1900 - He was a blacksmith helper. He was living with his parents. Single . 1904 - Mrs. James Graff was going to Newark to join her husband and make her future home. 1904 Dec- Mr . James Graff of Newark went back to Mt. Vernon to visit his parents. 1905 - Newark, a party where Mrs. Seavolt from Mt. Vernon and Mr. & Mrs. James Graff (looks like from Newark) were present. 1906 - Mrs. James Graff of Dewwy Ave (Newark), returned from Mt. Vernon where they visited Mrs. Graff's mother during the holidays. 1906 - Mrs. James Graff was called to Mt. Vernon on account of the sicknes of her mother, Mrs. J. Seavolt, who is threatened with appendicitis. 1908 - Mrs. James Graff and Mrs. Fred Kelly of Mt. Vernon have rerturned home after a short visit in Newark. LOOKS LIKE THEY MAY HAVE MOVED BACK TO MT. No children. He was a machinist in anengine factory. 1917 - James and Emma lived in Mt. Vernon on Mulberry. He was a machinist. 1918 - lived on Mulberry in Mt. Vernon 1920 - Got the H. for the middle name. He was a machinist. Mt. Vernon. 1930 - James H. living in Mt. Vernon, Knox, Ohio, with his wife. They had no children at that time. They had been married for a year. He was a machinist in anengine factory. Feb 12, 1930 - a James H. Graff, 57, died after an extended illness. He was a Spanish-American war veteran. his wife survives. Mt. Vernon OH. Miller & O'Bryan Funeral Home Records: Lived at 3 N. Mulberry. Died at home. He was married, wife's name was Emma. He was a machinist. Vol 28 - 33, Month 5, Year no. 21. Has sister as Mrs. Hazel Fisher of Shelby, Ind. ; brother as Mr. George Graff ofMt. Vernon. Emma paid the bill. The grave states that he was 56, and that he was in the Spanish American War. Book at the Knox Historical Society stated that he was a Sargeant in the 4th OH volunteer army infantry. Mustered into service Apr 1898, campaigned in Puerto Rico. 8 months of active duty. Trained in Columbus, and Chatanooga TN. August 1st landed in Puerto Rico. Garrison duty and captured the town of Guillemo. Pension records from the war state that the widow is Graff, Emma S. no minors. Looks like 1901 or 1908 he was an invalid. There are other Smith Graff's but born about 1881. Obit from the Democratic Banner: "Smith Graff, died 1-26-1887 at age 10 (SG the cemetery records say 11)). Son of Jonathan Graff. Died of inflammation of the bowels at the home of his parents on Harkness Ave. Funeral Presbyterian Church. Buried Mound View Cemetery." Summary of obit from Republican Newa: "Died 1-19-1887 at age 10. Son of JonathanGraff on Harkness Rd. of inflammation of the bowels. Funeral Presyterian Church."

High Street, Mt. Vernon. DOB was 28 Sep 1880. He was a laborer at the Mt Vernon Foundry, In Mt. Vernon. He had his mother named as his nearest relative. She lived at the same address. He had brown eyes and black hair, medium height and build. 1926 he was living at the US National Home for the Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. It says that he enlisted in Apr 22, 1898, discharged 2 Feb 1899. Disabilites were defective vision, Varicocele, arthritis. He was divorced, he had a sister, Mrs. Glenn Lysher, Shirley, Ind. She was his nearest relative. THERE WAS ANOTHER MAUDE AND GEORGE GRAFF LIVING IN OHIO in 1900 GEORGE WAS OLDER. Mrs. George Graff was living in Dayton, OH in 1929. Was that Maud or George??? In Feb 1930, he was supposedly living in Mt. Vernon (James Henry's death). Private in Spanish American War. Col L. Knox County Birth Records: Book 3, pg 86. Middle initial came from marriage record. 1909- 1910: She was a student. 1910 - She was living with her parents in Mt. Vernon. 1912 - 1913 - phone operator at George's business. 1914 - living with Ida at 103 1/2 High St. Mt. Vernon. She was chief operator CU telephone 1929 and 1930 was living in Shirley, IN. 1930 - She was a bank clerk. No children at that time. They were living in Brown, Hancock, Indiana. She was married to Glen. On George's military papers she was iiving in Shirley, IN. Anderson Daily Bulletin: 1 Aug 1964 Wilkinson - Mrs. Hazel Lisher Judge 71, wife of George Judge, Shirley, died Friday morning at her home. She had been employed at the bank of Shirley and at the Wilkinson bank for many years. Surviving are the husband and a step-daughter, Mrs. June Sullivan, Indianapolis. Services will be held at the Cundo and Son Funeral Home at 2 PM Sunday by the Rev. George Fleming of the Shirely Christian Church, and burial will be in the McCray Cemetery, near Wilkinson.
Not with the family in 1910. Probably died before 1905, when he wasn't mentionedwith the family in a newspaper article.
She is buried with Smith Graff. I originally assumed that she is from this marriage. But in 1910 Ida stated she had 5 children, 3 of whom were alive. That wouldleave no place for this little one. I could not find her in the 1870 census anywhere, and she should have been born by then. Jul 1870 Ida and Jonathan did nothave any children so this is looking very unlikely that this was their child.
