Thomas Hamlin HUBBARD
REFN: 8889 Sponsored Admiral Peary in the discovery of the North Pole. He wasthe Peary Arctic Club in New York. As a tribute to his friend, Adm. Peary named Cape Thomas H. Hubbard for him. The law firm he belonged to after the war changed to Butler, Stillman and Hubbard in 1874. He and his partners wereamong the organizers of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.His work was mostly corporate litigation. He managed the Mark Hopkins estate, which owned 1/4 of the Southern Pacific Co. of which Gen. Hubbard was a director and vice president. He established the International Banking Corporation, the first American bank to gain a foothold in the Orient. He is descended from Richard Hubbard of Salisbury, MA.
