REFN: 8877 He entered the military academy of West Point as a cadet 7/1/1837.He graduated 7/1/1841. He was 20th in the class of 52. He was commissioned a lieutenant of artillery. He served on the Northen Frontier during the Canadian Border disturbances, in 1841at Detroit Arsenal, at Sacketts Harbor, NY in1841, He was in garrison in Fortress Monroe, Va. 1842-1843. He was at Carlisle Barracks, Pa 1843-1844, and again at Fortress Monroe from 1844-1845. He participated in the military occupation of Texas 1845-46 and the Mexican War in1846 where he fought at the Battle of Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma in May. In 1846-47 he was engaged in recruiting. He was commissioned a first Lieutenant of the Fourth US Artillery 6/18/1846. In the Mexican War 1847-48 he wasacting Assistant Adjutant-General of the department at Vera Cruz. In February 1848 of the brigade moving on Orizaba, Mexico.1848-49 he was in garrison atFortress Monroe and at Fort Pike, La. He took part against the Seminole Indians in Florida in 1849-50. He resigned 4/30/1850.
