Listed in 1850 census in Paradise Township, York, PA. Census was dated 26 Nov 1850. He was 26. His children are noted from there. There is a 48 yr. old Elias living with them, he was blind. Who was 48 year old Elias? There was another Elias with a son Elias, so maybe these have been mixed up??? 12.3.09 - I am starting to question whether Elias's. I haven't found all of the kids on the same page. 1860 living in Paradise. His parents and brother were on the same page. No John, Amos or Eliza. 1870 - listed as Elias Hileman - living in Paradise. Heilman Leonard A. Heilman writes: My father and several sisters also state the following:My grandfather, Charles E., had a brother named Lauden and a sister named Sarah. Sarah never married. Grandfather (Charles E.) was a farmer and carpenter. Grandfather was quite a story-teller. This seems to be typical of the whole family. Thus, family history from this point on tends to become distorted and questionable as facts become based on stories Grandfather use to tell to his children.Thegeneral concensus is that Grandfather was born in York County. Regardless of where he was born, he lived at numerous places throughout Adams and York County. He never bought a farm but choose to always rent one. First recollections are that he first lived in Paradise township near the Adams County border. We then moveall around to farms in the Pigeon Hills. then the family lived below Hanover for awhile. They next lived near Abbottstown and then back to the Hanover area. From here they moved to a J.E. Baker farm 1/2 mile from Saginaw (New Holland). Theoldest son, John, worked for the railroad and got as far as Arizona before returning to become a blacksmith in Northeastern York Co. The older older sons became farmers in the Dover area. The rest of the family settled in and around Mt. Wolf, and were in various occupations.Since Elias is my great grandfather, there is a question as to whether Peter W. and 'Miss Wolf' are the same as my great great grandparents, Peter Heilman Jr. and Elizabeth Wolf. The only way this could be so is if Peter W. and 'Miss Wolf' had a son, Elias, who was not listed as suchin the Historical Society records."According to the Historical Society of York County, PA. there is an entry of cemetery records from Emanuel's Reformed Cemetery, Hamilton Twp., Adams Co. that has an "Elias Hileman, (G.A.R.) died Jl 3, 1880." Could this be Elias Heilman? LAHS?
