Physician's Return of Death
Notes:
Name obtained from Physician's Return of Death for Tempest Wilson. Later verified through multiple sources. I had a birthdate of 1742 and death of 1798, but this may have been for the people we thought were the parents of Tempest. There was a Joseph Wilson who owned an inn in Paradise in 1783. (History of York, pg 685.) This Joseph was probably the son of Thomas, as per a researcher at the York Historical Society. Copy in files. In 1781 he was noted to have been from Paradise twp, and that he was a tavernkeeper. He sold some of his land to Tempest Tucker, his brother - in -law. Then henamed his son after him later in the same year. He was listed as a yeomen at times in court documents and also as an Innkeeper. 1783: Tax survey of his household shows him as an innkeeper in Paradise. (MSR1f50) There was: 170 acres of land 4 inhabitants (who was the 4th inhabitant???) 1 home 1 outhouse 2 cattle 3 horses 10 sheep 1788 he was still in Paradise. See the court records. Birthdate extrapolated by will dates. 1783 - he bought land in Mt. Joy 1795 - he had land in Mt. Pleasant.

He had a judgment against him on 30 Oct 1788.

Lived in Wrightsville for years, which was a village just opposite Wrights Ferry, as Columbia was then called, with the broad Susquehanna River flowing between them. in 1797 the Wrights Ferry right was disposed of, and sublet to Frederick Stump and Tempest Wilson. As I have said, Wilson lived on the Wrightsville shore, while Stump lived at Columbia, and an extensive business was done there. Some days as many as 200 wagons were there in line waiting their turn to be ferried over, and in order to keep these in their order of precedence, numbers were chalked on the vehicles, which insured their turn on the boats. The Wilsons later removed to Abbottstown, Adams County, where they both died. pg 196; "Records of the American Catholic Historical Society of Philadelphia", Vol XVI, publ. 1905.
