George THOMPSON
John Butler, the grandfather of Joseph and Mary Elixabeth Nielson's children, sent for his wife's parents. They lived with them at Soda Springs and moved with them to Swan Valley in 1888. He carried on his trade of brick laying and built the church and many brick houses in Soda Springs. He was a wonderful gardener. He grew gooseberries, English currents and red currents. If an onion grew beside a carrot it had to come out. His rows were always perfectly straight. Both Joseph and Elizabeth Thompson were tall people standing about the same height - six feet tall. Joseph Thompson was never known to say a cross word or to swear. Night and morning prayers were always said in their home. At the last of his life he suffered agonies with an infected toe that rotted. He used to pray that he might not have to suffer so. He was 88 when he died.
