                   told by Genevieve Sutton
He was responsible, industrious and when he came back from the service which was while we were there he found that his father and his little sister had both died and were buried. There was a family now to support and Eli was the eldest fo the children left. Mother Harris was quite philosophical about this. When we had gone back to school in the summer time, Carrie and I, we found when we came back that Eli's brother Earl, who was next in line to him had died of a heart problem. Ma Harris, we feared, wuld be in bad shape and what would we say or do. But she took over and she just figured that "ours troubles is ours own" and so then she kept them to herself. Those Harris hearts were always a problem for the family.
Eli was great for kids. He love kids and always gave them a lot of attention. The year that Eli and Carrie married and lived in Pocatello for that year, getting their little house started, I suspect that was a very happy year, because it was 2 years until Vernon was born.
