                   David Caldwell (1725-1824), a graduate of Princeton, removed to North Carolina, where he was a member of the Constitutional Convention, 1776. He was a preacher, teacher, and was constantly harassed by the Tories. In 1781 the British encamped on his plantation and burned his valuable library and sermons. He was born in Lancaster County, Pa.; died in Mechlenburg County, N. C. His wife was a patriot and her name is among the heroines of the Revolution.
