Signed a tavern license in Abbottstown in 1847. I also have a death place as Gettysburg, PA. 1850 census stated he was a merchant. No children noted. 1870 & 1880 in Gettysburg, no one else in the household. He was a merchant. His parents were from PA. They may have died in Abbottstown, or Hamilton also. REFN: 10058 Gettysburg Compiler 30 May 1893 Death's Doings The death of one of our oldest and most respected citizens, Mr. Matthew Eichelberger, was briefly noted in our last. He was bron in Hanover, Oct 27, 1807, and was the eldest son of Jacob Eichelberger, For some years he was engaged in tanning at Abbottstown, and later kept store there, removing to this place many years ago, where he spent the balance of his life as retired. Until recently he was a director in the Gas company and was one of the heaviest stock holders of the Gettysburg National Bank. The funeral took place Thursday afternoon, the remains being intered in Hanover Cemetery
