William FAHNESTOCK
1808 1808 1808 1808 1808 1808 REFN: 7695 Was last one to be buried in the family cemetery. Family moved away. As of 1945, cemetery was in bad shape. Very devout, he was a member of the Great Valley Presbyterian Church, a ruling elder at the age of 25. He wasa member of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, he commanded respect and confidence of his community. He took over management of the WarrenInn in 1834, and ran it as a strictly temperance hotel, selling nothing on the Sabbath. This policy, together with the coming of the railroad, caused him to fail. He sold out in 1842, to Charles and Willam C. Thompson. Prior to1842, he was also Postmaster of the community.

REFN: 7707 Received a prize for English poetry his freshman year at college inNew Jersey. His junior year, he won the Orator 1st Prize, and was chosen to write the Ode of Welcome for the Centennial Celebration of the Cliosophic Society. He was Salutorian at Commencement. He taught at the college of NJfrom 1870 to 1873, while studying theology at Princeton, where he graduated in 1871. He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of New Brunswick, NJ, 4/15/1874. He became Pastor of the 1st Ward Presbyterian Church, Syracuse, NY,from 1/24/1875 until he died. He got his Doctor of Divinity from WashingtonCollege, TN, 4/12/1894. He was at home in the classics, but his most striking translation was of the hymn, "Dies Irae."
