1850 -There is a Uriah living with Henry and "Froniga" during the 1850 census. He was 19 years old.
1866 - There is a grant deed (in my possession), where he was the grantee from his father Henry (5 Mar 1866) - he was living in Ft. Leavenworth, KA at that time.
1875 and 1880 census state that he was a farmer (Oskaloosa, KA).
He had died by 1 Mar 1885, when Mattie, his wife was listed as a widow. She had a 3 month old child (female), so it makes sense that he died between Feb 1884 - Mar 1885.

5/25/09 -I am not sure about this one. She was married to a Uriah Graff on 11 Nov 1871. She died in 1875, apparently shortly after giving birth to a Judson Graff, 1875 - 1875.
Their marriage was on 11 Nov 1871 in Cape May, N.J.
Could be Melvina.

All the census say that he was bron in KA.
1875 Kansas census - Uriah and JH were there, his wife is not. This was on 1 Mar 1875.
James was not in the 1885 census with Mattie (after Uriah died). He ends up living in N.J. so possibly he was sent to live with blood relatives after his father died.
1895 census, he was in the Township of Lower, County of Cape May, New Jersey. He was married to Alice at the time.
1910 - He was 36 Living in Vineland, Cumberland, N.J He was and insurance agent.
1920 - He was 45. He was living in Ladis Township, Vineland Borough, Cumberland, New Jersey, during the 1910 and 1920 census. 1920 census he was living with his daughter and son-in-law.
Middle name very well could be Henry. One tree (Hoffman-Melland) had Henry as the middle name.

He and Alice were in Lower Township, Cape May, NJ. in 1895. Bertha was there also. This would confirm the theory that Melinda (Melvany) was his mother - since that is where she was from.
