Elijah helped settle Milton, Chittenden County, Vermont. The town government was organized 25 March 1788. Elijah and others signed the Oath of Fidelity and that date. Died intestate in June 1799. His estate came before the Probate Court at Burlington 2 July 1799. It was not finally settled until 1810.
