MINCHINHAMPTON, Gloucestershire - Searches in original registers which start in1561 - coveringBaptisms and Burials 1561-1752; Marriages taken from the printedregister, but incorporated here into the general list compiled. The register islargely written in LATIN, though I think you will be able to identify the meanings of some of the basic terms: e.g.:The words "baptizma etc." & "sepulta" referto "baptism" and "burial" whilst filius" or "filia" refer to "son" and "daughter"; Some names such as Ricardi (Richard); Guielmi or Guielmus (William); Georgius(George) and Jacobi (James) can be simply translated, but others were more difficult to decipher. Many events were also jumbled together, and it was often difficult to decide whether one was referring to a baptism or a burial. As I say, without William's will, constructing the family tree would have been impossible. However, this is the list we have compiled to date:?? May 1566 - "'Willim ?.... August 1615 - baptizata -Gulielium (= William) filius Richardi Webb"(possibly a child of Richard, born 1586. he would have been 29 years old by now and may well have married Elizabeth by now...as most men named their first son after their father, my guess is that he belongs on "your" Webb "tree" ... Richard's will in 1658 makes no mention of ason called William, so I cannot be sure about this..Having said that many children of course died young, and he may be the one who died in 1633; unfortunately,as well as not being able to locate Richard and Elizabeth's marriage (c. 1615?), we have been unable to locate the baptisms of his other children either. (cannot be sureentry reads "Webb");26 Nov. 1618 - baptism: "Martha(?), dau. of Webb"11 May 1619 - burial: "Thomas Webb"5 Dec. 1618 - baptism: "Tymothy, son of Richard Webb"(Again, another possible child of "your" Richard, born in 1586, especially as we know Tymothy was
a christian name used in the family... note that he died in 1624.)?? January 1621 or 1622 (difficult to establish) - baptism: "Thomas, sonne of Edmund Webb"(Legibility improves slightly 1622)13 Dec. 1623 - baptism: "Tymothie, the sonne of Geiles Webb"?? April 1624 - bap.: "Marie, clan. of Ambrose Webb"?? May 1624 - bap.: "Edmund, sonne of Edmund Webb"17 July 1624 - bap.: "Samuel, sonne of RichardWebb"11 Feb. 1624/1625 - burial: "John, the sonne of (?) Webb"22 Mar. 1624/25 -burial: "Tymothy, son of Richard Webb"(presumably the child born in 1618)25 Sept. 1625 Richard Webb & Jane Elger married(I am assuming that this was another Richard Webb - Richard born in 1586 would have been 39 years old by now, and we have the evidence of those earlier baptisms in 1615 and 1618, and the wills of William and Richard's own will confirming that his wife was called ELIZABETH..)?? Dec. 1625 - bap.: "Sarah, dau. of Ambrose Webb"?? March 1626 - bap.: "Richard(?),son of Jacob(?) Webb"7 Sept. 1627 - bap. "Elizabeth, dau. of Richard Webb"(Possibly a daughter of Richard and Jane?)?? Jan. 1628 - burial: "Jone/June, dau; of William Webb"4 July 1629 - bap.: "Nathaniell, sonne of Geyles Webb"5 July 1629 -bap.: "Hanna(?), dau. of Ambrose Webb"7 March 1630 - bap. Sept. 1640 burial: "John, son of William Webb" (surname unclear)16 Feb. 1641 - burial: "Edmond Webb"8 May 1641 - bap.: "Nathaniel, son ofNathaniel Webb"Aug. 1641 - burial: "Joan, wife of Ambrose Webb"(July 1645 -lesslegible again)"Mary, dau. of Richard Webb, borne on 12th day of March and baptised on 23rd day of March 1646)(Probably this is the Richard born in 1626, but again, difficult to be sure.)The Registers then become jumbled & incomplete, presumably due to the upheaval of the English Civil War. One page covers entries from1644 until 1651 Registers then resume 'normally' by 1652)1 Feb. 1652/3 burial:"Elizabeth, wife of Richard Webb"(This must be "your" Richard's wife - Note: Richard mentions his wife, Elizabeth in his will, which he wrote in 1649, three years before this burial. By the time the will was proved in 1658/9, she must havedied.)12(?) Feb. 1652/3 - burial: "Mary(?), wife of Nathaniel1 Webb"Ended the search in 1653.
