Charles was run down, shot and killed just a short distance from his home by bushwackers, common during the times of the Civil War.
Obituary, Mangum Daily Star, Wed. 29 Dec 1948: SCOTT RITES ARE CONDUCTED AT VINSON TODAY. Mrs. Sarah E. Scott, 93, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs D. A. Lamb. Services were at 2:30 p.m. today in the Vinson Methodist church, the Rev. E.L. Shumaker presiding. Burial was in the Vinson Cemetery. Mrs. Scott came to Vinson in 1910 and moved to Mangum last year. She was a member of the Methodist church. Two of her six sons and daughters survive her. They are Mrs. Lamb, Mangum, and Henry Scott, Amarillo, Texas. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Harriet Young, Arlington, Texas and a brother, Andy Messick, Wellington, Texas. Additional survivors include 35 grandchildren, 144 great grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandcildren.
He married Lydia Clotilda Frizzell 12 Jan 1853 at Henry, Tennessee . Lydia Clotilda Frizzell was born at Henry, Tennessee 26 Jan 1837 daughter of Jason Quincy Frizzell and Mahala Collier .
