Never found his grave, per Robert Sandford Dec 26, 1997. In state militia, along with James Madison, per above. Mustered in/out 1778. Darlene Hansen's note say Richard was born in Of Westomoreland Co., VA and died in 1795 Boone Co. Kentucky Uncle Robert Sandford (Frances's brother ) said that Richard and Winnifred were married somtime prior to 1783. Probably married in Westmoreland county, Virginia, because both were residents of that county. This Richard SAnford was a military man and great-grand- son of the founder of the Virginia family, Robert Sandford, who obtained a grant of land in Westmoreland, Virginia in 1690. This Richard Sanford, military man, enlisted in Captain Anthony Singleton's Company either on April 5th or March 5th in the year 1777. He received an honorable dischard at Morristown, March 10, 1780. His war reconds can in found in the War Records of Virginia, pages 46, 339, and 353 of Volume 4; and in Saffield's records of the Revolution, pages, 244, 245 and 274.
