Joel CHANDLER
It is not proven that he is the son of Shadrack Chandler (Deeds and Marriages need to be checked) But, he appears to be. He was 71 in 1860 in Cherokee, Alabama and died during or after the Civil War. He had a modest plantation $1000 real estate and $1025 personal property. Like his father, he moved often chasing newly released Indian land. He was an early settler in Dekalb, Georgia., by 1830, then Gwinette, and Henry, Georgia. He must have been sharecropping. After his father died, he picked up his family and moved again to Cherokee, Alabama, where John Jr. was living. His last child was born there. His first son, James Washington Chandler, had already been to Benton, Alabam and moved out to Benton, Arkansas, by 1850 loking for land not plaqued by mosquitos and malaria, according to the letters from his cousin John Jr., to daughter, Minerva Flowers in Lawrenceville, Gwinette, Georgia. He married Rosey Gunnell and she died probably in child birth at age 35. They farmed in Cherokee, Alabama, then, moved to Dunklin, Missouri (the tail between Arkansas and Tennessee). He was in the War of 1812. possibly, in Robertson, Tennessee, with his brother William.
He married Rosie Gunnell 23 Dec 1813 at Greenville, South Carolina . Rosie Gunnell was born at 16 Jun 1792 .
