NOTE: According to "Genealogy of the Desc. of the John Thomas of New Haven," Robert Campbell, Jr was born about 1709; this agrees with the article "William Rogers of Voluntown, CT...," NEHGS "Register," Vol 147, pg. 115. A specific date of birth of 23 April 1709 is given in "Robert Campbell Genealogy," Rev. Frederic Campbell, 1909, pg. 50, copied from notes written by Rev. Campbell himself in a pocket bible. Robert was among those who split from Rev. Dorrance's church in Voluntown in a schism in 1745; he joined the Congregational Church in Plainfield, CT from which he was received into membership in the Church of Christ at Canaan, Litchfield Co., CT in 1760. This Canaan church moved to Stillwater, NY in April, 1762. Prior to the move, Robert had been called as pastor 13 Jan. 1761 and ordained 20 Oct. 1761. ("William Rogers of Voluntown, CT...," NEHGS "Register," Vol 147, pg. 115.) According to The History of the Town of Stillwater, it became known as the Congregational Church of Stillwater and the Yellow Meeting House of Stillwater and Rev. Robert is buried in the cemetery adjacent to the church.

He married Mary McMains 13 Apr 1727 at Voluntown, New London, Connecticut . Mary McMains was born at Plainsfield, Windham, Connecticut Abt 1708 daughter of Daniel McMains and Jannet .
