Notes:
Three of the Bertagnolli siblings, Angela, teresa, and Costante were born in the village of DerMulo in the Province of Trentino in the northern Italian Alps. Little is know of their childhood in Trentino but we do know that they came from a large family. Teresa, Angela, and Costante traveled together to the Univted States. There was economic depression in their homeland and had little or no money for train fare or ship passage so in order to obtain the necessary funds, they worked their way into Germany, then across France picking cherries, apples, and other fruits or whatever there was to harvest. Their estimated ages were Angela 24, Teresa 22, and Costante 19. After working across France, it is thought that they sailed from the French port of La Havre. Based on the information I have been given the year would have been 1884. They first settled in Coal City, Illinois where Costante ran a boarding house with the help of his sisters. They moved to Daphne, Alabama after 1893 where many of the families are still living today. Other brother's Joachim (the oldest) and Oliver settled in Joilet, Illinois. Alexander lived here in Daphne for a short time then returned to Bellville, Illinois. These three are believed to have come to this country two years earlier than Costante and the girls.
