In 1738 Albemarle Parish was created from those parts of Lawne's Creek and Southwark parishes that lay southwest of Blackwater River. The remaining parts of Lawne's Creek and Southwark were united into Southwark Parish. The entire area of Albemarle Parish was incorporated into Sussex County when it was formed from the southwestern end of Surry County in 1754.

: In Sussex Cty., VA, Will Book A, 1754-1764, page 95, is recordedthe will of Jeremiah Bullock, dated October 9, 1757 and probatedJuly 21, 1758:"In the name of God amen the ninth day of October in the year ofour Lord One thousand seven hundred and fifty seven, I JeremiahBullock of the parish of Albemarle in the county of Susses beingvery sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanksbe given unto God therefore calling to mind the mortality of mybody and knowing that is is appointed for all men once to die,do make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament, that is tosay principally and first of all I give and recommend my soulinto the hands of God that gave it, and for my body, I commendit to the earth to be buried in a christian like and decentmanner at the discretion of my Executor, and as touching suchworldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in thislife, I give and devise and dispose of the same in the followingmanner and form, &c.I lend unto my well beloved wife Amy Bullock, all my personalestate as household goods, hogs, cattle, horses, &c. during herlife or widowhood and no longer.I give and bequeath unto my son John Bullock one hundred andfifty acres of land to him his heirs, &c.I give and bequeath unto my son Lemuel Bullock one hundred andfifty acres of land and to his heirs.I give and bequeath unto my son Charles Bullock one hundredninety five acres of land and to his heirs.I give and bequeath unto my son Richard Bullock two hundredsixty five acres of land and to his heirs with the plantationhouses, orchard &c after his mother's death &c.I likewise constitute and ordain my beloved wife and my son JohnBullock to be my only and sole executor of this my Last Will andTestament and I do hereby utterly disalow, revoke, and disanulall and any other former testaments and any other executors byme in any waies before this time named willed and bequeathedratified and confirming this and no other to be my last will andtestament.In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the dayand year above written.JEREMIAH BULLOCK (SS)Signed sealed published pronounced and delivered and declared bythe said Jeremiah Bullock as his last Will and Testament.
