                   Baker, John A.-82, Hubbards, passed away suddenly, June 15, 2002. Born in Blandford, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rebecca (Heisler) Baker. He was employed for 33 years with (Simpson's) Sears Ltd.. John served with the RCN during WWII from Sept 1940-Sept-1945. He joined as 1st Class Stocker and was discharged with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His service abroad took him to such places as Gibralter, South Africa, and the landing of Normandy at the battle of the Atlantic aboard the corvette HMCS Moosejaw. He has been an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 44, Chester for over 40 years. He was a kind and gentle man, and the heart and soul of the Hubbards Area Lions Club with 29 years perfect attendance, and due later this month to recieve a "900 Visitation" pin.  000200000054B0000032E545, His dedication to community service through the Lion's Club led him to hold such offices as President six times, Zone Chairman five times. Region Chairman once, and many other offices, too numerous to mention. He was most proud though of being Leo Advisor of the Hubbards Leo Club for 17 years, constantly telling anyone that would listen that "our young people can make a difference and they are our future". He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis (Hormans); by brothers, Harris and Willard; sisters, Hazel, Memlow abd Mae. He is survived by son, John (Vancouver); daughter, Connie George and husband Patricia (Bruce), Angela, Theresa, Desiree, and Cheryl; four great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards from 2-4, 7-9 pm. Wednesday, June 19th. Funeral service will be Thursday, June 20 at 11am at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Hubbards, Rev. Mark Pretty officiating. Burial will follow at St. George's Cemetery, East River. Family flowers only, donations can be made to the CNIB, Canine Vision Canada, or charity of your choice. Family and friends will be embraced at a reception to follow at the Hubbards Area Lions Club.
