                   L.P. as he was commonly called was associated with a rather large mercantile business, however, upon his return from the civil war he found that the mercantile business had gone into banruptcy. A few years later he put in the first four or saw mill in Jacksboro, Texas. He was the first mayor of Jacksboro and was county judge of Jack couty for two terms.

He had established this successful business in the frontier of the west when a three year drought in the late 1870's ruined the country. He was compelled to move his family to where he could secrue work. He moved to Mckinney , Texas where he reamined until his death.

He was a freemason and a member of the methodist church.
