Maggie lost her eyesight at about 3 years of age as an aftermath of a severe case of measles. Her father sent her to school in austin, Texas. She graduated in about 1903 from the Texas institution for the blind with high honors. According to her brother, Jesse Weldon, Maggie was always industrious and it was rare to see her sitting around doing nothing. She was very fond of writing and authored a small book of peoms, thoughts of rhyme. She also enjoyed writing short stories, many won literary prizes. She loved and seemed to worship children however she never had any of her own. Her husband was also bind.

According to her brother, Jesse Weldon maggie kept her house in perfect order and did the cooking.

Maggie was a member of the methodist church
