                   RESEARCH NOTE:  MARRIAGE - From the 1900 census, it appears that James and his wife Mary were married in 1875, and that Mary is the step mother of Mary Dunn.  However, Mary lists that she bore two children, both surviving.  Only two children are shown on the 1880 census, aged 11 and 7.  If these were really her step children, and she had two children after 1880, one might expect that one of children would be living with the couple in 1880.  At this point, it seems that the marriage date is more questionable that the relationship.  Further research is recommended.

RESEARCH NOTE:  IMMIGRATION - 1900 census shows an 1880 immigration date for James, his wife, and daughter Mary.  However, on the 1880 census, daughter Anna is seven years old, and born in New Jersey.  Immigration date must be at least 1873.  A James Dunn from Patterson, NJ is listed in the naturalization records of Passaic County in 1878, stating that he had lived in the US for at least 5 years.  This would be consistant with the 1872/3 immigration date.  Another James Dunn is listed in the records in 1884.
