From New England and Historical Register, Volume 86 - Benjamin Hanks Jr. after his marriage moved to Saquish Island in Plymouth Harbor, where all his children were born. About 1746 after selling Squaish Island he moved with his family to Mansfield, Connecticut where he bought land in 1737. There still standing is his home, known as "the Mansion House". It is an old fashioned house with 14 rooms on the ground floor, a great iron frame in the sitting room, and in the parlor beyond panels 3 feet wide, brought from England. Mary White united with the First Congregational Church in Mansfield in 1747. At his death Benjamin Jr. owned considerable land and many cattle. Uriah Hanks, his son, because of his perserverance made silk culture a successful business in Connecticut. He constructed the first wire drawing machine in America. He was a large and powerful man, was born a Presbyterian and was a devout member until he heard a revolting sermon. He then left the church and joined the "Separates". Ruth Brewster was a descendant of Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower through Jonathan, Benjamin and Daniel, her father of Lebanon.
