           "Richard Morgan (b. c1700) had 2 tracts of land surveyed
     by Robert Brooke on 12 APR 1734; 210 acres 1/2 mile north of present-day
     Shepherdstown (Tract 22, Map 1) and 290 acres "standing in the fork of Josiah
     Jones and Charles Anderson path". [Brooke, Robert, Book of Surveys, VA Hist.
     Soc., Richmond, VA] (Tract 24, Map 1)  The 290 acres is located 2 miles NW
     of present-day Shepherdstown on Jefferson County, WV Hwy 5, across the land
     on the east end; then the tract extends NW 1 1/2 miles across the Rockymarsh
     Run into present-day Berkeley County, WV.  He received patents from the
     Colony for both tracts on 3 OCT 1734. [VA Land Patent Book 15, pp 320, 321]
     Richard sold the 290-acre tract on 23 AUG 1738 to John VanMeter for 100
     pounds [Orange Co., VA Deed Book 2, p. 437] and the 210-acre tract to Van
     Swearingen on 10 AUG 1744 for 110 pounds. (Frederick Co., VA Deed Book 1, p.
     115]  Richard's wife Jane released her right of dower on both tracts of
     land.  Richard was appointed "Constable-Sherundo" on 26 FEB 1737/38, replaced
     by Wm. Myers on 27 JUN 1739 and was "Sworn to his Commission of Captain on
     26 MAR 1742". [Orange Co., VA Court Book 1, p. 233; Book e, p. 22; Book 3,
     p. 345]
     Richard sold no land for 18 years after the Van Swearingen sale until AUG
     1762, when he sold 255 acres. [Frederick Co., VA Deed Book 7, pp. 213, 309,
     338.]  Richard, with sons William and Jacob, accumulated 4,046 acres of
     Fairfax grant land by 9 JAN 1768. [Gray, VA Northern Neck Land Grants, Vol.
     2, g-426, H-83, H-309, H-675-677, H-692-694, M-8, M-282, N-9, N-194, O-112]
     Purchases included 300 acres from Edward Davis on 10 APR 1735 (part of
     Davis' 875-acre patent land on "Tulises Branch", (Tract 50 A, Map 2); 242
     acres on 21 JUN 1738 from John Welton [Dorman, Orange Co., VA Deed Book 1,
     p.10; Deed Book 2, p. 413](Tract 23A, Map 1); 108 acres from Thomas Shepherd
     on 31 MAY 1755; and 300 acres from Edward Teague on 30 JAN 1756. [Frederick

     Richard and son William (b. c1723) owned 2.219 acres of land by 4 OCT 1756
     [Gray, VA Northern Neck Land Grants, Vol. 2, H-83, H-67, H-676, H-692;
     footnotes 39, 40] from present-day (Trough Road) Jefferson Co., WV Hwy 16/1
     and 31/1 on the south; Jefferson Co., WV Hwy 16/5 on the west; across WV Hwy
     480 neach Mechlinburg Heights on the northwest; adjacent ot the south and
     east line of Shepherdstown to the Potomac River.
     Richard received Fairfax grants for 250 acres in OCT 1750, about 1 1/2 mile
     north of his 290-acre patent land, and his son William received a Fairfax
     grant on 23 MAY 1766 on the west side of Opequon Creek for 410 acres,
     adjacent west of John Hiatt Jr's 300-acre patent land, about 4 miles south of
     present-day Martinsburg, WV. [Gray, VA Northern Neck Land Grants, Vol. 2,
     g-426, N-9](Tract 61, Map 4)
     Richard and his son Jacob received 6 Fairfax grants from 2 MAY 1753 to 9 JAN
     1768 for 1,817 acres [Gray, H-309, H-677, M-8, m-282, N-194, O-112] located
     on SWAN POND south of present-day Greenburg, Berkeley County, WV; west to
     the Opequon Creek at Julep Bend; across the creek to U.S. Hwy 11 and then
     south to the north side of Martinburg.  Included in the above grants was a
     survey of 206 acres by James Wood on 13 NOV 1735, and another 206-acre survey
     by Wood on 15 DEC 1735.  "Richard Morgan by Bond for 6 pounds, 14 shillings,
     6 pence VA currency in two payments which when paid is for the pay or
     remainder of pay for the 2 tracts of land surveyed for him containing 450
     acres for which I am to procure Patents for at my chage.  Witness my hand.

     Richard's will was written on 14 NOV 1763 and proved on 6 DEC 1763, leaving
     100 acres each to daughters Mary (wife of Thomas Swearingen, b. c1735 s/o
     Thomas Swearingen, b. c1700), Olive (wife of JOHN STOCKDON) and Sarah
     Morgan.  Adjoining the Home plantation on the west lay the western part of
     242 acres of John Welton's 442-acre patent land and 211 acres Northern Neck
     Grant H-694. Son Abel received all the home plantation (east part of
     Welton's 242-acre patent land adjacent south to present-day Shepherdstown).
     Son William received 400 acres for the use of his 3 eldest sons; Ralph,
     George and Abraham. (Northern Neck Grant H-693 from the Potomac River on the
     east side of Shepherdstown, near and on Trough Road south to where it turns
     east, Jefferson Co, WV Hwy 31/1).  Son Isaac received a 250-acre plantation
     adjoining Captain Van Swearingen. (Northern Neck Grant g-426 loactes 1/2 mile
     north of Richard's 290-acre patent land).  GRANDSON SAMUEL STOCKDON, son of
     JOHN and OLIVE STOCKDON, received 98 acres oa land adjoining Edward Lucas
     (98-acre part of198-acre Northern Neck Grant H-692 located north of Trough
     Road, Jefferson Co., WV Hwy 31/1 and 16/1 and Flowing Springs Rd., WV Hwy
     230).  Granddaughter Jean Morgan, Jacob's daughter, received a lot bought
     from Dr. John Briscoe. "To son William 3 acres of the upper end of my
     meadow." [Frederick Co., VA Will Book 3, p. 159]
     William Morgan (b. c1723) married Drucilla Swearingen (b. c1723), d/o Thomas
     (b. c1700) and sister of thomas Swearingen, who married William's sister Mary
     Morgan.  Abel Morgan, son of Richard and Jane, married Elizabeth Bedinger,
     and had 3 sons (Daniel, Joseph and Jacob) and 3 daughters (Olive, Polly and
     Elizabeth)  Abel was deceased by 23 NOV 1784. [Berkeley Co., WV Deed Book 8,
     pg 361.]
     William Morgan's will was written 9 SEP 1788 and proved on 21 OCT 1788,
     leaving land to sons, Abraham, Zacheus, Rawley (Raleigh), Ralph and George;
     daughter Sarah Williams; grandson William (s/o George Morgan).  To grandson
     Abel (s/o Ralph Morgan) he left 100 acres in Kentucky. [Prince George Co.,
