CC NEILSON, 5/96: "Thomas died intestate at 61 years on 10 OCT 1804 in Ross
Co., OH. Bondsmen were John and Thomas Stockton (presumed to be his sons),
Robert Steel and William Creighton, Sr (married to his niece, Ann Stockton,
d/o David). Inventory for his estate was 7 pages, consisting of livestock,
agricultural implements and household items. Estate of Thomas Stockton; Ross
    Co, OH Estate Case 8509.
Thomas (or his son?) first appeared in Ross Co., records in 1802 when he
purchased 100 acres
in Union Twsp for 25 pounds current money of KY. Deed of Sale from Nathaniel
Massie and Susan his wife to Thomas Stockton, 13 FEB 1802, Ross Co., OH Deed
Book 2, p 204; Adjoing landowners were, David Stockton, John Dunlop, John
    McCafferty and John Mealhoups.
"History of Ross and Highland Co's, OH, pg 64; 27 DEC 1803 Thomas was a grand
     juror.
1790 York Co., PA census; 2 males over 16; (Thomas & son Thomas); 3 males
under 16 (John, William and ?); 3 females (wife, and 2 daus?)
This COULD mean that Thomas had 1 more son (b 1774-78) and 2 more daughters
(b 1770-72) than we know about now. Cliff notes there was also a listing for
a James Stockton, currently unidentified in Straban Twp. But that does not
account for the extra children on census listing.

CLIFF NEILSON, 7/93; born c1767 probably in Straban Twsp., Adams Co., PA; d in
NOV 1807; in March 1806, Thomas and Martha Stockton sold 100 acres in Union
Twsp to John Stockton. The land was described as adjoining David Stockton's
tract. Thomas had apparently inherited this land but there is no
documentation; in OCT 1806, Thomas purchased 100 acres in Highland Co., OH
from Ephraim Doolittle; in DEC 1810, John, William, and Martha, heirs of
Thomas Stockton, deceased of Ross Co., sold 100 acres in Highland Co., to
Samuel Gibson (presumed to be his 2 sons and his wife.)
CCN pg 84 "Thomas died intestate shortly before 7 NOV 1807. On that date,
bondsmen for his estate were John Stockton (presumably his brother), William
Robinson and Thomas Steel. His estate consisted of 1 bay mare, 1 saddle, 1
spring colt, and 1 ax, value $50.50; Estate of Thomas Stockton, 7 NOV
1807, Ross Co., OH Estate case 8511.
Thomas married c1802 Martha, probably shortly after arriving in Ross Co. She
died in Union Twsp, Ross Co. after 2 FEB 1822, probably at the home of her
sister-in-law Jane Stockton. In her will, Martha did not designate any
children as legatees, leading the author to conclude she did not have any
living children at the time of her death. Will of Martha Stockton, 2 FEB
1822, Ross Co., OH, Will Book B, p 145, and Estate of Martha Stockton, 25 FEB
1822, Ross Co., OH Estate case 8329; In the estate papers were Vouchers 16-22
dated 8 MAR 1824, to be paid by "Thomas F. Stockton" to various legatees.
This Thomas has not been identified. (see list of legatees under Martha's
    notes)
IT APPEARS THAT MARTHA WAS MORE THAN LIKELY HIS 2ND WIFE; his children were
born 1793, 1795; Martha named no children as heirs; Thomas's brother John was
married before 1802, William was 18-20 in 1804; while there are probably
children missing, Thomas was most likely the oldest child and b. c1770 and his
children were not Martha's. THIS IS BASED ON CLIFF'S PRESUMTION THAT THE JOHN
& THOMASWHO WERE BONDSMEN WERE HIS SONS, NOT BROTHERS

I take this to mean that he was old enough (over 18) not to need a guardian,
but not "of age" (21); therefore he was born 1784-1786
