Robert STOCKTON, COL
PAT STOCKTON 620 S. PINTO PLACE, TUCSON, AZ 85748 JOAN EWING 1856 7TH AVENUE N., FT. DODGE, IA 50501; letter from Helen Malony RUTH SETTERQUIST 1318 SHELBY DR., FAIRFIELD, CA 94533 ANCESTRY OF SAMUEL STOCKTON WHITE, WM.F.CREGAR, 1888, PG 117; "served with distinction in the War of 1812. died in Mississippi." DR. T.C. STOCKTON, 1911, PG 261; pioneer music teacher in western PA. Served in War of 1812 and attained rank of Colonel; married a southern lady. She had a number of slaves whom Col Stockton liberated. His home in PA was in Crawford Co, but he died in Mississippi. JOAN EWING, Ft. Dodge, IA; 10/90; has this Robert as child of Robert and Mary Makemie. Dr. T.C. does not give a wife's name but does give a child Maria who married Mr. Ewing. THIS Robert was in Western PA; the other was in Cumberland Co. Confusion is because Dr. T.C. gave the wife of the other Robert as Miss Gallion ????; Joan's cemetary records give death as 16 MAY 1844 at 72 years 10 months and 17 days; that makes the birth 29 JUL 1771, not 2 JUL, but apparently both Col. Roberts were born in the same year. Ruth Setterquist, sources: 1885 Crawford Co. History, pg 887, says "Was choir director, Alleghany College, 1817 (pg 414. Was installed elder in 1829 Harmonsburg Presb. Church (pg 132), formerly from Washington Co., PA, one of the first settlers of Vernon Twsp, where he lived and died, Col in the War of 1812."; Director of the Meadville Bible Soc. 1815, In French Creek Valley by Reynolds, 1981, pg 132. HAYFIELD TWSP, CRAWFORD CO., PA; PG 887; refering to William L. Stockton, "His paternal grandfather was Robert Stockton, formerly of Washington Co, and one of the first settlers of Vernon Twsp, this county, where he lived and died.
