John received land from his uncle Weston Clarke's estate. John was the
Speaker of the House of Deputies in 1711 and 1716, Colonel in Milita,
Governor's Assistant in 1746, and a member of Newport Trinity Church. The
assembly reimbursed him for additions he made at Fort George while Captain of
Fort George in 1741-44.
