CLIFF C NIELSON, 3703 MOSS BROOKE CT., FAIRFAX, VA 22031; 5/96; This child may belong here. Cliff found enough evidence of his existence in the time and place than made this the most likely choice. Joseph COULD have been a son of Robert, John, Thomas or David; estimated birth 1753; m. Elizabeth c1775 and died in Straban Twsp, York Co., before 13 APR 1784. Estate bond signed by brother, Thomas, 27 APR 1787. This is from "Probate File of Joseph Stockton", Office of the Clerk of Orphans Court, York Co., Courthouse. The only document in file was an estate appraisal dated 13 APR 1784. No genealogical data available. "Letters of Administration for Thomas Stockton for Estate of Joseph Stockton", 27 APR 1787, Will Book C, p 172. OLIVE BATCHER, 2423 HAMILTON DR., AMES, IA 50014; HER BOOK PUBLISHED, 1995; "Joseph Stockton was born in PA, and died in York Co., PA in 1784. Joseph was an ensign in the Revolution; he married and had a son. Since he died before his father, he was not included in his father's will, but neither was Joseph's son. On 27 APR 1787, Thomas Stockton signed the bond for Joseph's estate. On 15 MAR 1791, John Stockton, minor son (over 14) of Joseph, dec'd, late of Menallen Twsp, requested the appointment of his step-father, Samuel Nelson, of Hamilton Twsp, Franklin Co., PA, as guardian. CLIFF NEILSON, 3703 MOSS BROOKE CT., FAIRFAX, VA 22031; identified in stepfather's 1788 will, (8-20); "Orphans Court, Franklin Co., PA, Vol A-1791, pg 26; 15 MAR 1791, John Stockton, minor son of Joseph Stockton dec'd late of Menallen Twsp, York Co, upward of 14 years of age, prays that Samuel Nelson, his stepfather, of Hamilton Twsp, Franklin Co., be appointed his guardian. (8-5, endnote 41) Cliff has assigned the above Samuel Nelson as a child of Isabella (Stockton) and John Neilson, born c1769, d aft 1803. This does not seem possible. Samuel Nelson/Neilson, assuming the birth estimates are correct, would have been only 22 years old in 1791; John Stockton, 14. To be the Stepfather of John, he would have had to marry John's mother, Elizabeth, after her 2nd husband, Isaac McKinley died in 1788. Elizabeth would have been approximately 12 years older (b approx. 1757 to m c1775) than Samuel Neilson. Further, it would mean that Samuel would have married his Uncle's widow. John Stockton was already Samuel's cousin (his mother's nephew). MORE LIKELY, his name really was NELSON and he had no connection to the NEILSON/NELSON's who married Stockton's. lds MICROFILM 106?
