Pettis, was b in Mead Twsp, this county, 29 SEP 1815, s/o Patrick and Isabella
(Linsley) Davis, natives, the former of Berks Co, PA of Welsh desc, the later
of Ireland.  His father came to Meadville in 1796, in company with 6 brothers,
all of whom bought property, but 3 of the number became discouraged and
returned to their native county.  Patrick operated a tannery for many years in
Meadville.  He was twice married.  Our subject, who is the eldest child by his
father's 2nd marriage, received a common school education and was brought up on
a farm.  He was married in 1839 to Sarah Stockton, a native of PA, which union
has been without issue.  Members of United Presbyterian Church. He has been
Jusice of Peace, School director, supervisor, assessor and auditor of Meed
Twsp.  Capt of a militia co, 1842.
