Obituary included in notes. Billings Gazette:Bill Cartwright, 85, of Laurel, passed away at home with his wife Ruth and her daughter by his side, Monday evening, March 31, 2003, from cancer. Bill was born July 20, 1917, in Vananda, Mont., the seventh child of Orely Eugene and Alli (Smart) Cartwright. In his teens, he worked for Sicklers Garage in Forsyth. He married Ellen Higgenbothem on June 12, 1937; they later divorced. He went into the service in 1942 and served in Skagway, Alaska, and also in the European Theater with the 3941st Truck Company. After his discharge, he went to work for Ballsome DeFrance Truck Line as a mechanic, and Northern Tank Lines in 1974, and then to Cenex as a mechanic and dispatcher, retiring in July 1982. Bill married Mary McKeean Bice on Dec. 11, 1959; she passed away Oct. 1, 1991. In 1995, he met Ruth Rohrback; they married Jan. 30, 2001. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one wife; brothers, Ernie, Richard, Lee and Orely; and his sisters, Eva and Mabel. He is survived by his companion, caretaker and loyal and loving wife Ruth; daughter Sarah Jane Yost of Laurel; brother Andrew (Muriel) of Lynden, Wash.; sisters, Gertrude Johnston of Gore, Okla., and Hazel Lueck of Laurel; and sister-in-law Margaret (Paul) Holmgren. He is also survived by two grandsons, Ronald and Michael (JoAnn) Yost of Laurel; three stepdaughters, Roxy (Kevin) Klundt, Rhonda (Will) Wipf, Ramona (Rick) Bailey; and one stepson, Russell T. Rohrback, all of Billings; six step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews. At Bill's request, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at the Park City Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in his memory be made to Big Sky Hospice, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.
