Notes:
Christian Koehn, father of Ferdinand Koehn, from Ferdinand's
death certificate. Christian's wife's name was Mary.
Ferdinand was 10 years old when he came to America in 1862, so
he probably came with his family. If so, Christian and Mary
Koehn could have died in Chicago, where Ferdinand first settled.

Notes:
Ferdinand Koehn: Birth and death dates from death certificate.
Ferdinand's occupation: farmer, carpenter, cabinet maker. In
1880, the family resided in Chicago at 581 W. 16th Street.
Ferdinand immigrated to the US in 1862 from Germany. He arrived
in California in 1885, and moved to Rancho Santa Fe in 1887 to
start the ranch (Ref: death certificate). He is buried in the
Olivenhain Colony Cemetery.
Reference: The book "Colony Olivenhain" by Richard Bumann (p. 33,
44): The Koehns came by rail from Chicago and arrived in the
new German colony of Olivenhain on March 30, 1885. In 1887 they
homesteaded land to the northeast of Olivenhain, near Rancho
Santa Fe.
Notes:
Friedricke Koehn was a witness on Mathilde Koehn's baptismal
certificate in Chicago in 1880.
Ferdinand Koehn's nephew was Arthur Koehn (presumably the son
of Friedricke Koehn). (Ref: Edna Fidero Michaels, 5-5-85 tape)
