Apolinario Miranda was a soldier at Mission Dolores in San Francisco from 1819 to 1836. He was grantee of Rancho "Ojo de Figueroa" or "Ojo de Agua de Figueroa." In 1834 he was sent before the sub- prefect for not living harmoniously with his wife. He is buried at Mission Dolores. -- Notes from Bea Polloreno.

Juana Briones lived near the San Francisco Presidio and was married to Apolinario Miranda. She was one of the few Spanish women to acquire a Spanish land grant. Near today's "Los Altos" in the western foothills of Santa Clara still stands her adobe dwelling at Rancho La Purissima. Juana was born at Carmel, near Monterey, CA. Her parents came to the Santa Clara Mission in 1794.
