Murrell Pledger and his brother Thomas had moved from Granville Co., NC toElbert Co., GA by 1801 when they appear on the tax list for that year. Murrellwas a well educated man, he was Methodist minister a school teacher and on the1850 census he was listed as a doctor. One of the people he married was hisnephew James Pledger. Murrell served on several juries in Elbert Co., and thebook Nall Familes of America says he was a Justice of the Peace. When Murrelldied he was living with his youngest daughter in Tallahassee, FL.

Joseph Peace Pledger was very wealthy man, he owned much of the property inJonesboro, Georiga. He lived on a large plantation 7 miles east of Jonesboro.When his wife died he buried her in the garden on the plantation and shortlybefore he died he was looking out at the garden and said dear I don't knowexactly where your buried at but I'll be joing you soon. In his will hementions his children Joseph, Josiah, Jerusha and Frances. He set up a trustfor his son Joseph.
