Edmund Haggard was the seventh son of James and Elizabeth (Gentry), James was born in England in circa 1678 and is believed to be descended from Sir Andrew OGARD (Haggard) who came from Denmark and was naturalized in England, during the Reign of Henry VI Abt 1433, Elizabeth Dau of Nicholas Gentry, was b. in New Kent , Va. in Abt 1687 . The Gentry family came from England and have married Haggards of other generations in America. In the later years of his life they moved to Madison Co., Ky. and settled on Otter Creek, a few miles south of Boonesborough. They had 7 sons and 3 daughters.Edmond Haggard willIn the name of God Amen I Edmond Haggard of Madison County State of Kentucky being sick in body but of sound mind and memory calling to mind the mortality of my body do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that give it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in Christian Burial the discretion of my Executors which shall be hereafter mentioned and as for what worldly goods it has pleased God to bestow on me in this life I distribute them in the following manner (to wit)I do lend unto my beloved wife all I possess during her natural life after her death I desire it to be distributed in the following manner in the first place I give and bequeath unto my sonJonathan Haggard hundred dollar horse at the decease of my wife Hannah Haggard likewise I give and bequeath unto my son William Haggard five pound in the next place I give and bequeath unto the balance of my children ten shillings a piece as if I had named them by their names and after the death of my wife. And when my children receives what I have left to them in this my last will and testament my desire is that Lewis Fully should have the one half of my estate at the decease of my wife and when my other children that is mentioned in this will and the other half I give and bequeath unto my surviving children that may then be alive and I do hereby constitute and appoint my wife and William McCord Executors of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke all former wills and do declare this alone to be my Last Will and Testament, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this second day of March in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and eleven.Signed Sealed and Delivered in the presents of usDeverix PullyThomas HarrisJames RynotAt a Court held for Madison County on Monday the 1 st day of April 1811.
