Amaziah Wedgewood
1804-1898
Amaziah Wedgewood was born in Maine in 1804. His father was English, his mother was French. When eight years old his parents moved to New York, where he lived with them until he was 24. At that age he was married in 1830 to Elizabeth Kelley of Irish parents.
In 1852 he moved his family to Ohio, and 4 years later to Byron, steeling on 40 acres of land on Section 17. He is a member of the M. E. Church, and his wife belongs to the society of Disciples. Charles, the eldest son, enlisted at Grand Rapids under General Sherman and served 3 years in the Army of the Cumberland. Mr. Wedgewoods grandfather was a soldier of the Revolutionary War and was at Bunker Hill.
Ten of 11 children are living Ursula, Frances, Eunice, Charles, Amaziah, Jr., Angeline, Helen, Gustavus, Florence, Isabel and Orin.

He was 94 years old when he died. His wife, Elizabeth (Kelley) was 72. They are buried in Boynton Cemetery.

Army Service: He enlisted in a Michigan Regiment and was in active service for four years in the Civil War and was with General Sherman in his famous march to the sea.
He came to the Klickitat Valley in 1887 and located in the No. 6 country, where he resided ever since. (Source: Obituary, Goldendale, Wa., Dec. 1.
In August 1861 he enlisted in the Tenth Missouri Regiment for twelve months service. Upon receiving his discharge he again enlisted, this time in a Michigan regiment, and he served until the last gun of the war was silent, being honorably discharged in 1865.

Burial: Buried in Block 66, Lot 2, Goldendale Cemetery. Marker has the following inscription:Co H 1 Mich, Engrs and Mechs., Civil War. Also, the folllowing birth and death dates are given: Mar 14 1841 - Nov 27, 1907.
