GEORGE VAN ALSTINE
       George Victor Van Alstine, a resident of White Salmon since 1937, died Aug. 7 at Skyline Hospital at the age of 69.
       Mr. Van Alstine was born July 11, 1910, in Gravity, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Van Alstine. He worked at SDS Co. until his retirement and was a member of the Mountain View Grange, the Good Sam Trailer Club and Bethel Congregational Church.
       Survivors include his wife, Helen, White Salmon; two daughters, Wanda Barker and Doris Frankfother, both of White Salmon; one son, Larry Dean Van Alstine, Vancouver; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
       Rev. Dave Garrison conducted funeral services Aug. 9 at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon. Interment was at the White Salmon Cemetery.
       Contributions in Mr. Van Alstine's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

HELEN M. VAN ALSTINE
       Helen M. Van Alstine, formerly of White Salmon, died Nov. 30 at Vancouver, Washington. She was 79.
       She was born April 24, 1909 in Bedford, Iowa, to Clyde E. Masters and Margaret E. Tracy. She married George Van Alstine in Iowa in 1928, and they moved to the local area in 1937. Mrs. Van Alstine worked for Skyline Hospital as a bookkeeper from about 1950 to 1974, when she retired. She moved to a retirement apartment in Vancouver in 1985. Mrs. Van Alstine was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, attended the Assembly of God Church, and loved to quilt and make afghans.
       Survivors include a son, Larry Dean Van Alstine of Vancouver; a daughter, Doris Frankfother of White Salmon; a sister, Maysel Kiser of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Van Alstine was preceded in death by her husband, in August 1979, and a daughter, Wanda Barker, in October 1988.
       Services for Mrs. Van Alstine were held Monday, December 5 in the chapel of Gardner Funeral Home. Rev. Dave Garrison officiated. Interment followed in the White Salmon Cemetery, under the direction of Gardner Funeral Home.

WANDA M. BARKER

       Wanda Mae Barker of White Salmon died Wednesday, Oct. 5, in The Dalles, Ore. She was 58.
       She was born July 8, 1930 to George V. and Helen M. (Moore) Van Alstine in Gravity, Iowa. She came to Washington as a child. Her family operated a fishing resort at DuBois Lake before moving to Vancouver. She graduated from Fort Vancouver High School there. In 1950 she married Bill Barker. Mrs. Barker studied with the Jehovah's Witnesses, was a fine artist and loved to knit. She was fond of animals and her family always had pets. Mrs. Barker was a bookkeeper for SDS Lumber Company for a number of years.
       Mrs. Barker is survived by her husband, Bill of White Salmon; children Vickie Julien of Redmond, Wash., Donald W. of Lacey, Wash., and David of Puyallup, Wash.; mother Helen Van Alstine of Vancouver, Wash.; sister Doris Frankfother of White Salmon; brother Larry Van Alstine of Vancouver, and six grandchildren.
       Services for Mrs. Barker were held Monday, Oct.10, in the chapel of Gardner Funeral Home, White Salmon. Mr. Jim Bradshaw officiated. Interment was in the White Salmon Cemetery. Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
       Memorial contributions in Mrs. Barker's name may be made to the United Diabetes Association.
