Immigrated to U. S. in July, 1869

Jacob Schwartz, an old and highly respected resident and a retired merchant of
South Ottumwa died yesterday at 4:40 p.m. at his home, 112 North davis St.  He
was 66 years, 11 months and 8 days old at the time of his death.  He was one of
the oldest residents of the south Side and took an active interest in the
growth of S. Ottumwa.  He conducted a grocery store on church St. in several
locations.  Upon retiring he entered the employ of the Dain plant, where he
followed his trade of boilermaker, which he had learned in Germany.  He leaves
a widow, four daughters, Sister M. Gonazga of the sisters of the Humility of
Mary; Mrs. Nettie Swift and Catherine and Cecilia Schwartz and three sons,
Henry J. Schwartz, John and Aloysius Schwartz.  Two sisters, Mrs. J. Beaver of
Lawton, Oklahoma and one who resides in Germany.  Two brothers, John and
Nicholas Schwartz also survive.  Three daughters died in infancy and a son
accidentally drowned three years ago.  From his Obituary.
